Guide by Ian
Most people would like to be able to do 20 or 30 pushups in a set. And for most people, that goal is about 20 days away.
Start with one. Today. Or a half pushup on your knees if that is where you are. Do three reps of one pushup. And then tomorrow do three reps of two pushups.
That's the whole system.
Track it with something like this:
I started with one pushup, three times. Two weeks later I was doing twenty, three times. Not because I got disciplined overnight. Because the number went up by one each day, and the days added up.
Anyone can do it. You can do it with anything, not just pushups. Start on your knees. Or wall pushups. Or negatives. The point isn't the starting number. The point is the daily +1.
This is a real screenshot from my goal stats:

Miss a day? The chart doesn't care. You just pick up where you left off—or start again from the number you can do today. The progress is in the doing, not in the perfect streak.
It is so easy to have a goal and not make progress. To talk yourself into a cul-de-sac of never starting, of imagining what it might be like to learn a skill or achieve a new level. But most of the time most of the things we would like to add into our lives really start at less than 5 minutes a day. Start, and add. 1 Pushup. 5 Minutes of writing. Jog to the mailbox - then jog to the mailbox and back. Get out of bed by 7. Then 6:55. Then 6:50. There is power in pushing a number to a new horizon.
That is how habits are formed and that is how your life changes.
